Friendship Love Community

Growing up can be tough.
Having a friend that you trust can make it a lot easier.

... you're never alone

why
peer
mentoring?

42 Strong is based on Tate’s legacy of mentoring. We have made it our mission to carry on the work that he started.

Peer mentoring is best described as matching someone who has gone through an experience, with someone younger who is going through the experience. In our situation, an older student is matched with a younger student with the intention to create a supportive relationship.

Peer mentoring relationships are quite simple, but have the potential to create amazing outcomes such as:
+ Increased connectedness to family
+ Increased connectedness to peers
+ Increased connectedness to school and community
+ Improved self esteem
+ Improved overall well being

It’s our hope that the participants of our program experience these effects and more!

To accomplish this, our program is supported by a dedicated team of adult Team Leaders. They serve as the “Mentors to the Mentors”. Additionally, each Team Leader and Mentor is required to complete a comprehensive curriculum that consists of both online and in-person training. The goal is to provide the tools and training they need in order to provide the best possible experience for all program participants.

While much of the magic of mentoring happens between the mentor and mentee, we also support these relationships through monthly 42 Strong “Meet-Ups”. These meet ups range from team building activities, field days, educational sessions as well as more serious topics like how to build resilience after trauma. These monthly meet ups give our mentors and mentees something to talk about in the days and weeks after each event. Additionally, they serve as a vehicle to build a sense of community.

It is our goal to improve the world one relationship at a time…..and we will!

Please, tell me more about

The first step to joining the 42 Strong community is for the parents to register and obtain an ID. This ID will be used to link them to any participants that they enroll in the program going forward. It will remain the same for the entire time their family is part of the organization. Parents will receive an invitation to our 42 Strong Portal hosted on Zoho Connect. This is where all information regarding upcoming events, or communication with our participants will be posted.

After submitting the New Parent Registration, then the Mentors & Mentees can be registered using the Participant Application. We have simplified the application form and it now includes a few simple personality questions that help us facilitate the best match possible and the Participant Agreement outlining a few important details of participating in the program. It is very important that the Participant themselves answer the personality questions as they will be used to match them with their mentor/mentee.

After submission, your application gets reviewed by a board member. Someone on our team will reach out with any questions and to set clear expectations for the program. Applications received after July 1st will allow the participant to take part in our monthly events, but they will not be matched. Research shows that a mentor/mentee relationship must be a minimum of 9 months to have a positive impact on the participants.

After acceptance into our program, you will be placed with a Team Leader. This adult is your main point of contact for all questions going forward. They will be available via phone call, text or email. You will receive notifications of monthly events via text message.

The main requirements for participation in the program are that you:
1) Respond to our monthly event RSVP requests. It is preferred that you attend, but if you cannot, just let us know!
2) Respond to your Team Leader/Match when they initiate conversation. Response does not have to be immediate, but it is expected within a day or two.
3) Surveys – for those who have been matched, you will receive monthly Well-Being surveys via text message and quarterly Match review surveys. It is required that you respond to them, the survey takes approx 1 minute to complete.
4) Act with respect and compassion when you are in public. Our organization is only as strong as the participants in it. Every time that you go out in the community, you are representing us.
